Fishing Seasons

November to Early January

As the season begins, the rivers and lakes swell with thaw water, and trout, having recently spawned, are eager to feed. This is the perfect time to use streamers, large dry flies, and nymphs.

January and February

These are the hottest months, ideal for cooling off in our crystal-clear waters. It’s a fantastic time for using dry flies of any size and shape, including terrestrials and flies matching the hatches. Large streamers attract big trout, and you might witness the spectacular yellow mayfly hatch.

Late March to May

As our season winds down, migratory browns begin their journey to spawning spots, providing an exciting challenge for fly fishing enthusiasts.

FLY SELECTION

For our local rivers, we recommend a typical Western trout fly selection: hoppers, Chernobyl ants, stimulators, humpies, and Wulffs in sizes 8-12; bead-head nymphs in sizes 14-20; tan and olive caddis patterns in sizes 12-16; mayfly parachutes, emergers, and cripples in sizes 14-20; and a variety of streamers, including conehead buggers, matukas, muddler minnows, and bunny leeches.

We also offer some local favorites, such as green inchworms and pancora crab patterns, available for purchase. Our lodge features a fly-tying bench for your convenience, and our shop is stocked with all the flies you might need for a successful fishing adventure.

EQUIPMENT

Rod: We recommend using 9-foot, fast-action rods in 5 and 6 weights.

Reel: Opt for reels with reliable brakes and a minimum capacity of 100 yards of 20-pound backing.

Lines: Bring floating lines and a spare spool with sinking lines up to 200 grams if available.

Tippet: Pack 9-foot leaders ranging from 1X to 5X.

Spools: Ensure you have spools of tippet material ranging from 1X to 5X for all your fishing needs.
